The Franklin County Rock & Mineral Club was formed in 1978 as a non-profit organization, affiliated with the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies (AFMS) and is a member of the Eastern Federation of Mineralogical and Lapidary Societies. (EFMLS) Insurance coverage is provided as part of the payment of club dues through an Eastern Federation master policy.
The main purpose for the club's organization is to encourage the interest, enjoyment and appreciation of members, prospective members and the public for rocks, minerals, and gems. The club was organized to increase knowledge and stimulate interest in earth sciences and lapidary arts. Meetings and field trips contribute by bringing these common interests together. An informal group, we welcome all visitors with an interest in the earth sciences and lapidary arts.
Club meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month in room 110 of Lortz Hall on Wilson College's campus in Chambersburg. Meeting time is 7:30 pm. The club sponsors a family picnic in July and schedules a holiday banquet in January. A newsletter, The Franklin County Rockhounder, is published 11 months a year to inform members of scheduled programs and field trips. No issue is published in August.
Visitors to our meetings are always welcome but, you must be a member of the club to take part in any field trips.
